I wrote a couple of days ago about how the ‘net has trashed old concepts of life-cycle. Here is a technology example:  HD DVD.

Over the past few weeks the story highlights goes something like:

Japanese sales figures published – show HD DVD lagging behind Blu-Ray

Days later – big chains across the world annouce they will discontinue selling HD DVD one by one

Today -a top digg story (on engadget) says Toshiba will announce plans to discontinue and pull all remaining stock tomorrow.

Compare this skirmish with the battle between Beta and VHS formats 20 years ago. That went on for years. The times – they are a changing real fast!
